Awarded Military Cross -19th April 1917

‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He tended the wounded under very heavy fire and trying conditions with great courage and determination. It was due to his organization and skill that the wounded men were successfully evacuated.’

Awarded Bar to Military Cross -24th September 1918

‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of the evacuation of the wounded from a whole divisional front during thirteen days’ operations. On several occasions when it was impossible to bring casualties through by the existing route, he personally inspected the new line of evacuation on each occasion and made admirable arrangements for getting them clear and avoiding further casualties.’
