George aged 21, enlisted in Liverpool NSW. on 14th Jan 1915.
In May 1915 he went to Gallipoli as part of the 4th reinforcements 1st Bn, where he was wounded on the 24th July 1915. After recovery George was sent to the 53rd Bn and later to the 14th Aust Machine Gun Co. He saw further action in France before again being wounded at the 2nd Battle of Bullecourt on the 11th May 1917. He died of his wounds the following day. He is buried in the Vraucourt Copse Cemetery France. George the youngest son of Thomas Hall of East Sydney was raised by his elder sister Fanny McCann after his mother died when he was 4. Fanny also lost her eldest son James Hall at Fromelles in July 1916. George’s photo appeared in the Sydney Mail on 15th Aug 1917 together with photos of his elder brother Frank who survived the war, and James.
