There seems to be a discrepancy between the name “Sydney James Forsyth” and the photographed name “Stanley James Forsyth”. Sydney James Forsyth from Cootamundra was 39 years old when he enlisted in World War I. On his records, his number was 2795.

    • Hi Diane
Yes there is a discrepancy Re this photo which I obtained from the Monto RSL. I believe the most likely explanation for the discrepancy in the name is a typo error. Looking into his service record contained on the NAA web site, it states that 3079, Private Sydney James Forsyth was 21 years old when he enlisted into the AIF. The units he served in were the 41st Bn and the 4th Machine Gun Squadron, as per the label on the photo. I decided not to crop the label off the photo, as I wanted it as I found it. I believe the entry is correct based upon enquiries made to date.

        Hi Glenn,

Thanks for checking the information. I came across this when looking for Private Sydney James Forsyth who was part of the special draft from the railways and transferred to 3rd ALR Forward Coy – no. 2795. I was concerned that somehow their names had been mixed up due to the different name on the photo.

        kind regards,

My great uncle is in the group photo of the 45th Battalion. It is great to have a copy of this photo. Can you tell me the source of the photo?
